The STATreport “Hate Speech on the Internet” is based on the results of the 2025 survey on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) usage in households. It focuses on internet use, the use of social media, and the perception of hate speech among the Austrian population. The publication shows how frequently people encounter hostile or degrading online content, which population groups most often report such experiences, and which characteristics or groups are targeted by perceived hate speech. In addition, the report compares the 2025 results with findings from 2023 and places Austria’s results in a European context. The publication provides up-to-date statistical insights into the prevalence and perception of hate speech in the digital environment.
