The consumer survey records consumer spending and data on the standard of living of private households in Austria every five years. The results provide information on the consumption habits of households and the living conditions of different social groups. In addition, the expenditure totals collected and their distribution across individual expenditure groups form an important database for the reweighting of the basket of goods within the consumer price indices (CPI and HICP) and also represent an analytical tool for validating the results of private consumption in the national accounts (NA).
