Volunteering

The survey on volunteering will take place for the fifth time this year from January to March 2025. In Austria, this survey is conducted online, by telephone or in person as an optional part following the mandatory microcensus survey and around 10,000 people take part. In 2006, 2012, 2016 and 2022, people living in Austria were already asked about their unpaid voluntary activities. 

Many people in our society make an important contribution to our common life through voluntary, unpaid activities. The statistical recording of unpaid and voluntary activities is important for Austrian social and economic policy, especially in the current situation.

The main topics in the questionnaire are participation in voluntary activities both in the context of organisations and associations and in the informal sector, e.g. neighbourhood help, as well as the number of hours spent on these activities. 

The survey on volunteering is not offered in English.

Questionnaire

In the module ‘Volunteering’ you will find questions about your personal involvement in unpaid and voluntary activities, e.g. in which areas you are active and to what extent or what your motivations for unpaid and voluntary activities are.

Reporting option

Have you received a notification letter inviting you to answer additional questions about your voluntary activities and don't know what to do next? You don't have to do anything actively. Following your next microcensus survey, we will ask you to voluntarily answer questions on volunteering. You can answer the questions directly after your microcensus survey online, by telephone or in person.
