Integrated Farm Statistics

As of 1 April 2026, Integrated Farm Statistics (IFS) will be carried out throughout Austria as a sample survey. This survey incorporates both the horticulture and field vegetable production survey and the viticulture survey, each of which will be conducted as a full enumeration. Of all agricultural and forestry holdings in Austria, approximately 37 000 holdings are affected that meet at least one of the defined survey thresholds. Holdings engaged in horticulture, field vegetable production, or viticulture are fully included in the sample.

All affected holdings will receive a letter from Statistics Austria in April containing the necessary information and personal access data. Data collection will take place online via an electronic questionnaire (eQuest web questionnaire).

EU legislation:Regulation (EU) 2018/1091 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 July 2018
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2914 of 25 November 2024
Federal legislation:              Ordinance of the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management, Federal Law Gazette II No. 49/2026 (available in German only).
Section 9 of the Federal Statistics Act 2000
Data protection:

The data collected are subject to data protection under the Data Protection Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 165/1999 as amended – available in German only) and to statistical confidentiality pursuant to Section 17(3) of the Federal Statistics Act 2000

Comprehensive data protection information on this survey can be found in our Data Protection Information for the 2026 Integrated Farm Statistics (available in German only).

In accordance with Section 6 of the Integrated Farm Statistics Ordinance, together with Section 9 of the Federal Statistics Act 2000 as amended, there is a legal obligation to provide information. If you do not comply with this reporting obligation, this administrative offence will be sanctioned by the district administrative authority.

If none of the survey criteria apply to your holding, you are required to submit a blank report.

In the event of a sale, transfer or full lease of the holding, you are obliged to assist in determining the new person responsible for providing information. If the entire holding has been transferred (e.g. to a son or daughter) and continues to be managed under the same LFBIS holding number, no blank report is required. In this case, the questionnaire must be completed by the new farm manager.

All units that meet at least one of the threshold values or a minimum cultivation area are included in the survey.

If the holding meets at least one of the listed criteria, all applicable survey characteristics must be provided.

The reference date for the survey is 1 April 2026. The applicable reference periods can be found in the content explanations provided for each thematic section.

The questionnaire must be completed electronically by 22 May 2026 for direct respondents. Holdings submitting area-based applications (MFA) 2026 may complete their reporting, after arranging an appointment in advance, until 30 June 2026 with the support of the Chambers of Agriculture at district level.

Holdings without an MFA that wish to make use of a telephone interview must complete it, following prior appointment scheduling, no later than mid‑July 2026. To arrange an appointment, the toll‑free hotline 0800 799 766 (available on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00) must be contacted.

Holdings without MFA (area-based applications)

Holdings without an MFA can begin completing the questionnaire immediately.

Holdings that have already submitted MFA 2026

If you have already submitted your MFA 2026 and entered the correct land‑use type for all plots, please wait for the data transfer. Afterwards, you only need to complete the information that is not collected through the MFA or adjust entries that do not correspond to the definitions of the Integrated Farm Statistics.

Holdings that have not yet submitted MFA 2026

If you wish to preview or partially complete the questionnaire, select the option “Open questionnaire without MFA land‑use data”. It is recommended not to finalise the pages “Arable land”, “Land use”, and (if applicable) “Organic farming” at this stage.

Holdings with horticulture or field vegetable production

The surveys on horticulture and cultivation of field vegetables, which were previously collected in separate questionnaires, are now integrated into the IFS questionnaire. These sections (pages) appear automatically when they are relevant for the holding or when corresponding areas are entered in the IFS questionnaire.

Holdings with viticulture

The viticulture survey is integrated into the IFS questionnaire. This section (page) appears automatically when it is relevant for the holding or when corresponding areas are entered in the IFS questionnaire.
