Statistics Council

The Statistics Council (§§ 44 to 47 Federal Statistics Act) of Statistics Austria is composed of 16 independent members, who are appointed by the Federal Chancellor or delegated by 12 institutions (one member each) for a term of office of five years. All Members hold the professional qualifications needed to perform Statistics Council duties. Should any member leave the Statistics Council before the end of his/her term of office, a new member is appointed to fill his/her position. Upon expiry of its term of office, the Statistics Council remains in post until the first meeting of the new Statistics Council.

Main tasks:

The Statistics Council’s main duties are (§ 47. (1) Federal Statistics Act):

(2) Five members are delegated by the following Federal Ministers (one member each):
