In December 2007, the Fiscal Equalization Law 2008 was enacted. It decrees that from the financial year 2009 onwards, Statistics Austria has to annually determine the population number on the 31st October for the Fiscal Equalization. That number is the result of the "Mini" Register-Based Census with reference date 31 October 2008.
The data collection for this "Mini" Register-Based Census allows for early analysing some areas of the census. Already for the reference date 31 October 2008, the labour market statistics could be published for the first time. Additionally, for the reference date 31 October 2009, further results concerning demography, education and commuting analyses follow. That means, that for the reference date of the Register-Based Census (31 October 2011) comparisons of time in those areas will be possible.
