Preliminary Labour costs according to ÖNACE 2008 averaged €28.20 per hour worked (including apprentices and other trainees) in 2010. In industry and construction they amounted to €30.13, in trade and services to €27.19. An hour worked in 2010 costs the most in the branches of “Financial and insurance activities” and “Electricity, gas steam and air conditioning supply”, at €46.90 and €44.17 respectively, while costs in “Accommodation and food service activities” were approximately two third lower. In “Manufacturing”, “Transportation and storage” and “Real estate activities”, expenditure for an hour worked fell compared to 2009. In the economic activities manufacturing and reals estate this due to a higher increase in the number of hours actually worked than in labour costs, while in the transportation branch hours worked have been reduced less than labour costs.
Employers paid 73.8% for gross wages and salaries in 2010 and 26.2% for indirect labour costs such as employers’ social contributions (23.6%, incl. continued remuneration in the event of sickness and severance payments) and other labour costs (2.6%). The proportion of indirect labour costs was highest in water supply (28.0%).
Results for the years 1996 or 2000 until 2008 are only available according to the national statistical classification of economic activities ÖNACE 2003. Backcasting according to ÖNACE 2008 for years before 2008 is not planned.
