Long-term trend and current final annual results

In the 1980s and 1990s, there were 85 000 deaths a year on average. The lowest number of deaths in Austria was recorded in 2004, at 74 292, rising by 897 in 2005 to 75 189. 2006 once again brought a decline in the number of deaths, to 74 295. From 2007 to 2009 Austria saw an increase in the annual total of deaths to 77 381. In 2010 the number of deaths slightly decreased by 0.2% to 77 199 compared with the 2009 figures.

The infant mortality rate was 3.9 per thousand live births.
