In the 2009/10 theatre season, attendance at the federal theatres
increased by 1.8% over the previous year to 1.30 million, attendance
at the large private theatres and musical theatres in Vienna also increased
by 22.7% to 1.35 million. Especially the Raimundtheater
Federal museums recorded a total of 4.22 million visits in 2010, equating to a 9.1% growth in the number of visitors over the previous year. In 2010, provincial museums recorded a total of 2.05 million visits.
Public libraries reported 1.13 million active readers and 21.5 million loans in 2010; this equates to an increase of 3.8% in the number of readers and 4.9% in the number of loans.
In 2010, the Austrian daily press consisted of 15 newspapers (journalistic units) with 14 additive regional editions (not taking into account dailies for free), while the number of weekly newspapers was 230. All Austrian daily newspapers together reached 73.7% of the population in 2010 (based on the resident population aged 14 and above), which corresponds to a projection of 5.23 million readers. The newspaper that reached by far the highest percentage of the population throughout Austria was the Neue Kronen Zeitung (38.9%). Of the quality newspapers, Der Standard achieved the highest circulation with 5.3%.
The number of radio and television licenses in 2010 was 3.44 million and 3.25 million respectively, which equates to approximately 90% coverage of households. The total percentage of the population reached daily by radio and television was (based on the resident population aged 14 and above) 81.9% and 62.7%, respectively.
In 2010, the number of cinema visits decreased by 6.0% over the previous year to 17.3 million; this equates to 2.1 visits per inhabitant.
