Statistical data on producer prices in agriculture and forestry and on supply and feed balances contributes substantially to the report on the state of Austrian agriculture and is a mainstay of policy decisions taken as part of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The data also represents an effective instrument for monitoring trends in agricultural markets using national and international comparisons. Within agricultural statistics, the results of the statistics on agricultural and forestry producer prices and of the supply and feed balances play a key role in calculating the overall agricultural and forestry accounts. Indeed agricultural price indices are calculated and published by LBG Wirtschaftstreuhand Ges.m.b.H. on the basis of the agricultural and forestry producer prices.
