2010: Chicken production rose slightly

In 2010, hatcheries subject to reporting requirements reported a total number of 109.1 million chicken-eggs for hatching - this represents a growth of 8.9% in comparison to the previous year. Similar trends were observed for hatched chicks: the number of chicks for laying purposes rose to 14.8 million heads (+18.5%), that one for fattening purposes to 67.3 million heads (+9.2%). Numbers on turkeys, geese, ducks and guinea fowls will not be published for data protection reasons.

Methodological notes

In accordance with Regulation No. 356/2003 (as amended; available in German only) of the Federal Law Gazette II all hatcheries with a laying capacity of at least 1 000 hatching eggs are subject to this survey.
