– According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, 1 627 people
died in calendar week 42 (from 18 to 24 October 2021). This was similar
to the previous two weeks, when 1 615 (calendar week 41) and 1 590 (calendar
week 40) people died. At the end of September/beginning of October,
the number of deaths fluctuated slightly more (1 663 deaths in calendar
week 39 und 1 576 in calendar week 38). Currently (calendar week 42), the
number of deaths is 6.2% above the five-year average of the same week
(2016–2020). In the observation period since calendar week 38 the largest
deviation from the five-year average (+11.1%) was recorded in calendar
week 39 (from 27 September to 3 October 2021).
