Number of deaths in the first weeks of July lower than at the end of June

Vienna, 2021-07-29 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, the number of deaths was at a slightly elevated level during the second half of June; particularly in the 25th calendar week (from 21 to 27 June 2021), when 1 648 persons died in Austria. This was 15.1% higher than the average number of deaths in calendar week 25 of the five previous years, 2016 to 2020. In each of the three subsequent calendar weeks, the number of weekly deaths fell again below 1 500 per week, much closer to the average of the previous five years. In the calendar week 27 (from 5 to 11 July 2021), the number of deaths was even slightly lower than the five-year average.

Further information on deaths can be found on our website, where an interactive web application – the Atlas of Deaths – also graphically illustrates the development and regional distribution. Detailed results can be found in Statistics Austria's open data repository.
