Number of deaths 1.7% below the five-year average

Vienna, 2021-04-08 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, 1 599 people died in Austria in calendar week 12 (from 22 to 28 March 2021).

"In the fourth week of March, 76 fewer people died than in the previous week. The number of deaths is thus 1.7% below the average value of the 12th calendar week of the five previous years 2016 to 2020. Excess mortality is thus not currently observed," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
