Total number of pupils in school year 2019/20 almost constant; highest number of pupils in academic secondary schools (lower level)

Vienna, 2021-03-18 – A total of 1 095 549 pupils attended Austria's schools in the school year 2019/20. According to Statistics Austria, this is around 2 100 or 0.2% more than in 2018/19. Primary schools in particular recorded an increase in the number of pupils (+0.6%). The number of pupils in new secondary schools declined slightly (-0.1%), while the number of pupils in academic secondary schools (lower level) increased by 0.3% compared to the previous year and reached again a peak value.
