Turnover in industry and construction increased by 8.2% from January to May 2019

Vienna, 2019-08-30 – A total of 65 737 enterprises in the entire industry and construction sector (-0.1% compared to the previous year) turned over €124.7 bn (+8.2%) in the reporting period January to May 2019, according to calculations by Statistics Austria. Working-day adjusted, the turnover for industry and construction increased by 7.4%. These figures coupled with increasing employment (996 523 persons, +2.2%).

At establishment level (66 314 establishments, -0.1%), production sold increased by 8.0% (working-day adjusted: +7.2%) in comparison to previous year's level and amounted to €123.1 bn in nominal terms (employing 995 730 persons, +2.2%). Industrial production sold increased by 7.4%.

35 940 Austrian construction establishments (+0.1%) achieved a production sold of €18.1 bn in the reporting period January to May 2019. This corresponds to an increase of 12.0% in nominal terms (working-day adjusted: +10.8%) compared to the previous year.

At the end of May 2019, Austrian construction companies (not including construction auxiliary trades) had orders booked totalling about €17.0 bn (+12.3% year-over-year).
