Turnover in industry and construction increased by 7.9% in the first quarter 2019

Vienna, 2019-07-01 – A total of 65 889 enterprises in the entire industry and construction sector (+0.6% compared to the previous year) turned over €73.9 bn (+7.9%) in the first quarter of 2019, according to calculations by Statistics Austria. Working-day adjusted, the turnover for industry and construction increased by 9.0%. These figures coupled with increasing employment (975 706 persons, +3.2%).

At establishment level (66 466 establishments, +0.6%), production sold increased by 7.7% (working-day adjusted: +8.8%) in comparison to previous year's level and amounted to €73.1 bn in nominal terms (employing 974 913 persons, +3.3%). Industrial production sold increased by 7.2%.

35 985 Austrian construction establishments (+0.9%) achieved a production sold of €9.5 bn in the first quarter of 2019. This corresponds to an increase of 11.2% in nominal terms (working-day adjusted: +12.4%) compared to the previous year.

At the end of March 2019, Austrian construction companies (not including construction auxiliary trades) had orders booked totalling about €16.9 bn (+16.1% year-over-year).
