The INSPIRE Directive 2007/2/EC aims to create an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe to support Community environmental policies, and policies or activities which may have an impact on the environment. The INSPIRE Directive entered into force on the 15th May 2007 and will be implemented in various stages following the INSPIRE Roadmap.
The INSPIRE Directive covers spatial data sets which relate to an area of a Member State, are in electronic format, are held by a public authority and relate to one of the data themes listed in Annex I-III. Statistics Austria is obliged to implement the directive (providing metadata and geodata through INSPIRE network services) as Annex III comprises themes such as “Population distribution and demography” or “Statistical units”.
Major European access point to INSPIRE data and services is the community geo-portal INSPIRE geoportal.
INSPIRE Services of Statistics Austria
INSPIRE network services make it possible to discover, transform, view and download spatial data and to invoke spatial data and e-commerce services. In order to ensure the interoperability of the infrastructures established common Implementing Rules are adopted. Statistics Austria is making relevant data and services available through its discovery service: GetCapabilities
