Vienna, 18 May 2009 – According to Statistics Austria, Austrian residents (aged 15 years and over) made only 1.5% less holiday trips in the 1st quarter 2009 (January to March) compared to the same quarter in the previous year, although the popular Easter holidays were in March in 2008, whereas they were in April in 2009. The number of domestic holiday trips decreased by 1.9%; the number of holiday trips abroad declined by 0.8%.
Concerning business trips of Austrian residents (aged 15 years and over), there was an increase of 13.8% in the 1st quarter 2009 compared to the same quarter in the previous year. With a total of 1.3 million business trips, the number of business trips is almost back to the level of the 1st quarter 2007, when Easter also fell in April.
