Start of the 2021/22 winter tourism season with 3.3 million nights spent, but far below pre-crisis level
Vienna, 2021
"Due to officially imposed closures since 22 November 2021, tourism in Austria has started the winter season 2021/22 very cautiously: Compared to the previous year, in which a lockdown already applied from 3 November, Austrian accommodation establishments recorded three times as many nights spent in November 2021, but this is 38.0% less than in November 2019 before the Corona crisis," says Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.
The number of nights spent by resident guests was
1.47 million, 95.0% more than the same month last year, but 36.2% fewer
than November 2019; that of non-resident guests reached 1.82 million nights
spent
Regarding the origin of the non-resident guests, Germany was the most important market for Austrian tourism in November 2021 (0.87 million nights spent), followed by Poland with 0.12 million nights spent and Switzerland (including Liechtenstein) with 0.09 million nights spent.
A quarter fewer nights spent in the calendar year 2021 to date
The current calendar year 2021 (January to November)
recorded 73.47 million nights spent, which corresponds to a decrease
of around a quarter
