Slight increase in total number of pupils in the school year 2020/21

Vienna, 2021-12-16 – Attendance figures in Austria’s schools continues to rise steadily. According to calculations by Statistics Austria, the increase in the school year 2020/21 was 0.6% (approx. 6 800 pupils more than in 2019/20). In primary schools, the number of pupils increased to 347 521, while the attendance figures in academic secondary schools (lower level) reached new highs (122 600). In academic secondary school (upper level) and in college for higher vocational education the year-on-year increases are also partly due to the Corona pandemic.
