Nights spent in August 2020 down by 11.2% year on year; nearly a quarter more nights spent by resident guests

A third less nights spent in the current tourism summer season
The number of nights spent in the current summer season (May to August 2020) was 39.51 million, down by 33.0% compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of arrivals declined by 43.2%.
Current calendar year 2020: so far, almost 34 million fewer nights spent than in the previous year
In the current calendar year 2020 (January to August), 81.7 million nights spent were registered, 33.62 million fewer than in same period of the previous year – despite the strong winter months of January and February with increases of 5.8% and 10.5%, respectively. By the end of August 2020, nights spent decreased by 29.1% compared to the period January to August 2019 and arrivals sunk by 38.3% to 20.48 million.

on methods: Within the scope of the monthly overnight statistics,
the arrivals and nights spent are provided by rented tourist accommodation
establishments in communities with more than 1 000 nights spent per year.
Thus, of the 2 095 Austrian communities, 1 566 reporting communities transmit
data to Statistics Austria monthly. The survey units are commercial and
private tourist accommodation establishments, which transmit their data
