– In 2015, the federal states Vorarlberg (+7.2%) and Salzburg (+7.2%)
realised the highest relative increases in exports,
according to preliminary results by Statistics Austria. Upper Austria
showed the strongest development in absolute terms (1.77 bn €). While
eight out of nine federal states could increase their export values
compared to the year 2014, only Vienna (-3.3%, -0.62 bn €) registered
a decrease. On the import side, Burgenland
(-6.7%, -0.18 bn €) and Lower Austria (-4.1%, -0.98 bn €) had to register
a decline, whereas the imports of the remaining seven federal states
increased. In relative terms, the most dynamic developments were recorded
for Vorarlberg (+6.1%) and Tyrol (+5.3%). In absolute numbers, Vienna
(1.27 bn €) and Upper Austria (1.21 bn €) showed the strongest growth
in imports. The highest external trade values in terms of trade
intensity (sum of imports and exports) were observed in Upper
Austria, Vienna and Lower Austria, in the order indicated.
Among the nine Austrian federal states, most imports
were registered in Vienna (33.71 bn €, 25.3% of the overall Austrian
imports). Upper Austria (25.02 bn €, 18.8%) and Lower Austria (22.82 bn €,
17.2%) recorded the second and third highest imports, respectively.
With more than one quarter, Upper Austria had the largest share in the
overall Austrian exports (33.82 bn €,
25.7%), followed by Lower Austria (20.50 bn €, 15.6%) and Styria (19.74 bn €,
15.0%). Five federal states showed a foreign
trade surplus for the year 2015. Upper Austria had the largest
surplus (8.79 bn €), whereas Vienna accumulated the highest trade deficit
(-15.33 bn €).
