Vienna, 2010-09-02 – Sarah and Lukas topped the charts in 2009 when it came to the first names given to newborn babies in Austria. Out of a total of 76 344 babies who were born in 2009, the first names of the 65 312 newborns (31 849 girls and 33 463 boys) with Austrian citizenship were analysed. Parents chose the name Sarah 863 times (2.7%) for girls and Lukas 914 times (2.7%) for boys. The name Sarah reached the number one position for the second time after 2003 since entering the "Top Ten" in 1990. The name Lukas entered the "Top Ten" in 1991 and has been the most popular name each year since 1996.
