Positive production trends in industry and construction in May 2010; turnover +14.8%

Vienna, 2010-08-30 – According to calculations by Statistics Austria, the 60 674 enterprises (+4.3% compared to the previous year, whereas two third of the increase was due to new consortia) in the entire industry and construction sector turned over a total of EUR 18.3 bn (+14.8%) in May 2010 coupled with a moderate decreasing employment (887 328, -0.6%).

At establishment level, too, production sold in the industry sector (employing 626 041 persons, -1.4%) was above the previous year’s level and amounted to EUR 15.2 bn (+16.9%) in nominal terms. In construction, production sold stood at EUR 3.0 bn (+5.6%).

Methodical information, definitions: From January 2010 onwards, the presented main results of monthly short term statistics in industry and construction cover 100% of the overall Austrian turnover and production volume and hence 100% of the enterprises in industry and construction. Before this methodological change, only about 90% of the turnover and production volume was covered.
