Methodical information, definitions:
The motor vehicle statistics (registrations of new and used vehicles as well as the stock of vehicles) is a secondary statistics which is compiled on the basis of daily data files sent to Statistics Austria by Austria’s association of insurance companies (VVO). The VVO in turn receives the data by the insurances’ registrations offices which are responsible for registrations, de-registrations and rectifications of motor vehicles and trailers.
Within the statistics, all registrations of new vehicles, which means all brand new motor vehicles, are levied. In doing so, the duration of the registration is irrespective (short registrations, e.g. registrations valid for 1 day).
Starting with January 2009 the total concerning new registrations of motor vehicles and passenger cars is adjusted according to the number of working days since the possible number of registrations highly depends on the number of working days.
