Provisional number of new passenger car registrations increased by 16.0% in February 2010

Vienna, 1 March 2010 – According to provisional results of Statistics Austria, a total of 21 838 new passenger cars were registered in February 2010, representing an increase by 16.0% compared to February 2009. From January to February 2010 the number of new passenger car registrations increased by 13.0% to 42 720 units.

Methodical information, definitions:
Starting with the reference month August 2009 Statistics Austria is publishing the provisional new passenger cars as an additional service on the 1st working day of the following month. The data are compiled on the basis of daily data files sent to Statistics Austria by the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO). These data are not checked regarding to plausibility and completeness.
More detailed and final data on new motor vehicle registrations will be published on 9 March 2010.
