Preliminary foreign trade results January to November 2009: decreases in imports (-19.3%) and exports (-21.1%) – trade balance turns positive in November

Vienna, 5 February 2010 – According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria total imports amounted to 89.55 bn euro and total exports amounted to 86.72 bn euro in the period January to November 2009. Austrian imports decreased by 19.3% and Austrian exports by 21.1% compared to the period January to November 2008. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of 2.84 bn euro. In November the data showed decreases for imports by 9.3% (yoy) to 8.63 bn euro and for exports by 2.5% to 8.84 bn euro, resulting in the first positive trade balance of 0.21 bn euro in 2009.
