– In the reference period November 2008 to October 2009 about 67 200
accommodation establishments (excluding campsites) and 1.09 million
beds (excluding extra beds) were reported in Austria according to Statistics
Austria. The number of establishments declined in comparison to the
reference period 2008 by 0.8%, the bed capacity rose by 1.0%.
In the winter season 2008/09, the bed occupancy
amounted to 34.3% (-0.9 percentage points under the previous year's
winter). In 5-/4-star establishments utilization declined 2.5 percentage
points to 49.5%, in 3-star establishments there was a decrease of one
percentage point to 35.9%. In private accommodations (19.2%) and private
holiday dwellings (26.7%) the previous year's level could not be surpassed.
In the summer season 2009, the bed occupancy compared
to 2008 declined from 30.2% to 29.6%. The bed occupancy of establishments
in the 5-/4-star category decreased by 2.9 percentage points from 52.8%
to 49.9%, those of establishments of the 3-star category (35.0%,
previous year: 36.3%) and the 2-/1-star hotels (22.3%, previous year:
22.7%) were under the previous year's levels. Beds in private
accommodations and private holiday dwellings were utilized to 16.2%
and 15.5%.
