PRESS RELEASE:
9.721-163/10
Vienna, 2010-07-22
– According to Statistics Austria, a total of 9 592 passenger cars
were registered and de-registered within one day in the first six months
of 2010. Therewith, two-thirds of 2009’s overall 14 438 one-day registrations
were already done in the first six months of 2010. Compared to the first
half of 2009 (5 873 units), an increase by 63.3% was observed (first
half of 2008: 7 234). The share of one-day registrations in new car registrations
(169 675 units) amounted to 5.7% from January to June 2010, in 2009 and
2008 the shares amounted to 3.5% and 4.3%, respectively. Subtracting
one-day registrations from the new passenger car registration figures
(+2.2%), the development would have been stable. Thus, the one-day registrations
supported the new passenger car statistics positively in the first half
of 2010.
Regarding one-day registrations by months, the increases
in January (+178.7%) and May 2010 (+101.4%) were the most considerable.
In the first six months of 2009, one-day registrations decreased in
each month apart from February.
The number of short-term registrations of passenger
cars up to seven days increased by 75.8%; that of registrations up to
30 days increased as well (+60.6%). A positive development was recorded
for short-term registrations up to 60 days and 90 days, respectively
(+45.0% and +38.3%).

Methodical
information, definitions: Motor vehicle statistics (registrations
of new and used vehicles as well as the stock of vehicles) are secondary
statistics, compiled on the basis of daily data files sent to Statistics
Austria by Austria’s association of insurance companies (VVO). VVO,
in turn, receives data by the insurances’ registrations offices, responsible
for registrations, de-registrations and rectifications of motor vehicles
and trailers.
A short-term registration is the registration of a new passenger car
that is deregistered within a certain period; i.e. a new passenger car
registered up to seven days must be deregistered on the very same day
or within the following seven days to appear in this statistics. This
applies to short-term registrations valid for 30, 60 and 90 days as
well.
A one-day registered passenger car is registered and deregistered within
24 hours.
The reference month is the month of deregistration. The decisive factor
for a registration to be classified as a short-term registration is
the date of the initial registration as well as the deregistration-date
(process of deregistration is realised by the insurances’ registrations
offices) of a vehicle.
The data is not adjusted according to working days. |
