Vienna, 2010-07-01 – According to provisional results, a total of 33 068 new passenger cars were registered in June 2010, representing a decrease by 8.4% compared to June 2009. The increase in June 2009 ("clash for clunkers" scheme started in April 2009) had amounted to 4.0% compared to June 2008.

From January to June 2010 the number of new passenger car registrations increased by 2.3% to 169 786 vehicles.

Methodical information, definitions: Starting with the reference month August 2009 Statistics Austria is publishing the provisional new passenger cars as an additional service on the 1st working day of the following month. The data are compiled on the basis of daily data files sent to Statistics Austria by the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO). These data are not checked regarding to plausibility and completeness.
More detailed and final data on new motor vehicle registrations will be published on 7 July 2010.
