Provisional number of new passenger car registrations in May 2010: -1.9%

Vienna, 1 June 2010 – According to provisional results, a total of 29 167 new passenger cars were registered in May 2010, representing a decrease by 1.9% compared to May 2009. The increase in May 2009 (“clash for clunkers” scheme started in April 2009) had amounted to 4.8%.

From January to May 2010 the number of new passenger car registrations increased by 5.3% to 136 828 vehicles.

Methodical information, definitions:
Starting with the reference month August 2009 Statistics Austria is publishing the provisional new passenger cars as an additional service on the 1st working day of the following month. The data are compiled on the basis of daily data files sent to Statistics Austria by the Austrian Insurance Association (VVO). These data are not checked regarding to plausibility and completeness.
More detailed and final data on new motor vehicle registrations will be published on 11 June 2010.
