Vienna, 1 June 2010 – The economic crisis affected transportations on the Austrian railway network as well. According to calculations by Statistics Austria, 98.9 million tons of cargo was transported by Austrian and foreign rail operating companies in 2009, representing a reduction of 18.7%. In the same period the transport performance (the product of transport volume and distance) on the Austrian section decreased by almost 19% to a total of 17.8 billion ton kilometres.
