Good Christmas business, but moderate turnover in Austrian retail trade in 2008

Vienna, 4 February 2009 – Based on first estimates for December 2008, the turnover in the Austrian retail trade increased by 3.0% at nominal values and by 1.7% at constant prices (trading day adjusted -0.3%) on a year to year base. The results for the calendar year 2008 show an increase of turnover at nominal values by 3.5%. With only +0.6% at constant prices, Austrian retail trade achieved its worst result since 2003.
