Vienna, 23 December 2009 – In November 2009 the number of overnight stays decreased by 2.3% to 3.54 million in comparison to the previous year. Almost half of the nights spent were due to resident visitors (49.4%). The overnight stays of resident visitors decreased by 0.5% to 1.75 million, the overnight stays of non-resident visitors decreased by 3.9% to 1.80 million.

According to the latest available data from Statistics Austria, the overnight stays in Austrian 1- to 5-star hotels decreased, while commercial and private holiday dwellings (+8.1 and +0.5%) reported positive figures.

From January to November 2009 114.14 million overnight stays were observed, 1.9% less than in the reference period of the previous year.
