Österreichs Städte in Zahlen 2009

Austria’s cities and towns in figures – a cooperation project between Statistics Austria and the Association of Austrian Cities and Towns – gives an overview on the demographic, economic, ecological and social characteristics of cities and towns with more than 10 000 inhabitants and municipalities with 5 000 to 10 000 inhabitants.

Divided into five sections, each with a different focus, this publication contains current figures on topics such as demographic trends, education, culture, transport, tourism and the management of public finances. Information is provided on key municipal duties and responsibilities such as water supply and the disposal of refuse and wastewater as well as on welfare institutions and leisure facilities.

The individual sections are preceded by introductory texts giving a brief overview of the contents of the section. More detailed reports deal with a key issue which this year has its focus on the integrated regional development in the Obersteiermark Ost and the development of municipal finances as well.

The accompanying CD-ROM contains the entire publication as well as data from the publication broken down in more detail. The Excel format used for the data ensures ease of processing.
