This publication presents both current and historical data on population structure and development along with all demographically significant factors, providing both a basis for political decision-making and relevant information for all interested readers.

In addition to the structural framework of the state of the population, figures relating to births, deaths, marriages, divorces, naturalisations and migration represent the basic data of every society. The age structure of the population provides a detailed basis for one of the most frequently discussed issues in political debate.

With its overview tables and graphics, the introductory text constitutes a self-contained demographic report and describes the data via the related glossary. In terms of the key variables, the data series begin as early as around 1870 and thus constitute systematic historical statistics whose significance is clearly evident through their continuation to the present day. An extensive international section provides the necessary global context.

While virtually all data is shown at both national and provincial level, systematic overviews that include the district and individual municipality level are available for selected data. Accompanying the yearbook is a CD-ROM which contains the entire content of this publication in PDF format as well as the tables in Excel format.

This publication is available in German only but contains an English summary.
