Vienna, 2010-06-24 – In 2009 an annual total of 18 806 divorces was recorded in Austria. Compared to the 2008 figure, this is a decrease of 895 divorces or 4.5%. The total divorce rate was 46.0% in 2009 compared to the all-time high of 49.5% in 2007. In Vienna the total divorce rate was nearly 54% whereas in Tyrol the figure was only 38.0%. A large majority (87%) of all divorces were by mutual agreement. In 2009 the annual total of children affected by parental divorce was 20 619 (an average of 1.10 children per divorce), thereof 14 480 children under 18 years of age.
