Vienna, 12 May 2010 – In the first quarter of 2010, the provisional number of births in Austria increased by 1.6% over the same period of the previous year to 17 674. The proportion of live births born out of wedlock rose from 39.2% to 39.6% during this period. In the past twelve months (Apr. 2009 – Mar. 2010), the provisional number of births in Austria decreased by 0.4% over the same period of the previous year to 75 665. The proportion of live births born out of wedlock rose from 38.8% to 39.3% during this period.
