Vienna, 2010-07-30 – In 2008, 28 983 new enterprises were created in Austria according to the latest available data from Statistics Austria. Referring to the total number of active enterprises on the market this corresponds to a rate of enterprise creation of 7.1%. Compared to the year 2007, the intensity of enterprise creation increased by 0.5 percentage points. On average, 2.4 jobs were created per start-up. The 28 983 created enterprises were accompanied by 24 511 closing enterprises; this corresponds to an enterprise closing rate of 6.0%. Per enterprise closed down 1.8 jobs were lost on average.
