Vienna, 2 December 2009 – In the school year 2008/09 the different trends of enrolment in the Austrian school system observed during the last years have continued. Due to a decline of the birth rate the number of pupils enrolled in primary education has decreased. In lower secondary education the afflux of students to the academic secondary schools continued. In upper secondary education the number of students enrolled in the academic secondary schools and in the higher technical and vocational colleges has increased.
