Vienna, 5 May 2009 – Three months before the Kindergarten free of charge for the 5-year-olds is coming into effect data of child care of the current year 2008/09 is available. According to the calculations of Statistics Austria 76,103 5-year-olds are currently cared for in kindergartens or nurseries. Additionally, 2,039 children started school ahead of time in September 2008 and are not cared for in after-school care clubs. 2,980 children at the age of 5 years are neither cared for in child care institutions nor enrolled in schools (3.7%).
