Vienna, 7 May 2009 – "Learning new things is fun." In Austria four out of five 25- to 64-year-old employed individuals agreed with this statement in the Adult Education Survey 2007. However, according to Statistics Austria, employed women concurred with the statement much more determinedly than employed men did. Yet the proportion of employed females participating in lifelong learning exceeded but marginally the proportion of participating employed males. Employed women who wanted to attend continuing education activities were much more frequently hindered by family responsibilities than employed men. Moreover, working men striving for further education got altogether more support from their employers than working women.
