Two thirds of the new entrants of the upper secondary education level leave these schools with graduation

Vienna, 25 February 2009 – More than half of the pupils of a year changed from the lower secondary school first stage or an academic secondary school to an academic secondary school second stage or a higher technical and vocational college. The school leaving certificate ("Matura") of these schools gives access to tertiary education. However, only two thirds of the new entrants of the upper secondary education level leave these schools with the upper secondary graduation "Matura". In the recently published publication "Bildung in Zahlen 2007/08" Statistics Austria demonstrates how different the chances of success are already in the entrance classes of the upper education level.
