Vienna, 10 February 2010 – According to Statistics Austria the number of examined pig slaughterings accounted for 5.54 million pieces in 2009 (+0.8% compared to 2008), those of the cattle amounted to 620 000 pieces (+1.5%). Furthermore slaughterings of 122 000 sheep (+4.1%), 80 200 calves (0.6%), 5 000 goats (+40.8%) and 978 equidae (+8.3%) were examined.

Methodical information, definitions: The slaughtering statistics is a secondary one, which is provided on basis of monthly reports by regional veterinarians. Only results of equidae, cattles, pigs, sheeps and goats are published by Statistics Austria.
