Wien, 18 December 2009 – Strong decreases in producer prices for milk and cereals, a lower output volume of cereals and wine and falling prices also for pigs and cattle were the main factors for the significant decline in agricultural income in 2009. In spite of lower production costs and the balancing effect of agricultural subsidies agricultural income per labour unit is estimated to have declined in 2009 by 20.4% in real terms in Austria. These findings are based on the first estimates of the Economic Accounts for Agriculture (EAA) for 2009 compiled by Statistics Austria.
