2009: second highest production of grain maize within the last decade

Wien, 17 December 2009 – Despite crucial weather-conditions, the cereal production in the year 2009 (including grain maize) was 4.8 Mio. tons. According to Statistics Austria, the ten years average was topped by 6 per cent, in spite of a 11 per cent decline compared to the record amounts of the previous year. With 1.9 Mio. tons of grain maize the second highest production within the last decade was reached.

The harvest of oilseeds and leguminous plants brought 364 100 tons (-2 per cent to 2008) and thus corresponds to the long term average. Root crops, considering the actual prognosis of 3.8 Mio. tons, might note clearly above the normal range and present a similar harvest as in the previous year (-1 per cent).
