This brochure gives an insight into the living conditions of the people in our country. Findings and statistics from economy and society are presented in text, table, and chart form by Statistics Austria and provide information on a wide variety of subjects: The booklet has information on population, education, employment and the job market, the economy, science and technology, tourism, environment, and other topics. A separate section offers characteristics of the nine Austrian Länder. The publication is available as a download free of charge.
The income situation of employees and pensioners is shown by earning levels, sex, age, social position, extent of employment, place of residence (Länder, political district, NUTS 3 unit) and economic activity as well as by other relevant social characteristics. Wage tax statistics record all earnings to their full extent, including those parts of earnings that are above the maximum contribution threshold for social insurance. Definitions of key terms relating to taxation law can be found in the text section. Download available in German only.

Regionales BIP 2007 - neue Ergebnisse für NUTS 2 (Bundesländer) und NUTS 3-Regionen (Gross regional product 2007 – new results for NUTS 2 (Länder) and NUTS 3-regions)
According to Statistics Austria's latest calculations the nominal growth of regional GDP for NUTS 2 ranged between 6.9 % (Salzburg) and 5.0% (Vienna). The Austrian average of the Gross regional product (GDP) per inhabitant showed €32 600 in 2007. With €43 300 per inhabitant, the federal capital Vienna was once again clearly above average. The regions with the lowest GDP per inhabitant were at NUTS level 2 Burgenland with €21 600 and at NUTS level 3 Weinviertel with €16 500.
Today Statistics Austria has published the latest results on income, poverty and living conditions in Austria based on EU-SILC 2008. The at-risk-of-poverty threshold in the year 2008 was 951 Euro per month for a single person household. For other household types the threshold increases by 475 Euro for each additional adult and 285 Euro for each child. These results are based on the annual EU-SILC survey which is the main source for indicators on social inclusion. In total 12.4% of the population was at risk of poverty, representing about 1.018.000 persons.
According to Statistics Austria's latest calculations the nominal growth of the disposable income of households (including non profit institutions serving households) ranged from 4.9% (Styria) to 3.7% (Vorarlberg) in 2007. The Austrian average of the disposable income per inhabitant was 19 500 in 2007. Lower Austria and Vienna had the highest disposable income per inhabitant (20 000 Euro). The lowest per capita figures were recorded for the households in Carinthia (18 600 Euro).

Konjunkturstatistik im Produzierenden Bereich 2008, Band 2 (Short term statistics in industries and construction 2008, Volume 2)
In addition to Volume 1 this publication presents the final annual results for the national production of goods. The data on which these results are based is collected in the context of the Short term statistics survey in industries and construction (Sections B to F of ÖNACE 2008). The national production of goods is thus shown both in terms of value in (Ö)CPA 2008 aggregate form, and at the same time – in line with the ÖPRODCOM national catalogue of goods, which is entirely compatible with the European PRODCOM list – in terms of value and quantity by the following production types: technical production, total production, economic production and production sold. Gebarungen und Sektor Staat 2008 - Teil II (Public Finance and Sector Government 2008 - part II)
The publication “Gebarungen und Sektor Staat“(„Public Finance and Sector Government“) consists of two volumes since the reference year 2003. Part II now available presents aggregate information about the budgets of federal, state and local governments. In addition detailed results of the tax sharing system and ESA 95-data about sector general government – compiled at the end of September 2009 – are published. Divided into five sections, each with a different focus, this publication contains current figures on topics such as demographic trends, education, culture, transport, tourism and the management of public finances. Information is provided on key municipal duties and responsibilities such as water supply and the disposal of refuse and wastewater as well as on welfare institutions and leisure facilities. This publication on the health care system in Austria provides information on a wide range of topics relating to illness in the population (cancer incidences, hospital admissions, etc.) as well as on the range of causes of death and the effects on life expectancy. Moreover, the hospital system, social insurance and health expenditure are presented both from a national perspective and in an international comparison. Download available in German only.
The publication contains population figures for Austria, its federal provinces (Länder), districts and municipalities at the beginning of 2009 as well as the components of population change in 2008, accompanied by an analysis of trends in population development for the reporting year. In addition to the results of the current reporting year, this publication includes also the revised data for the period from 1st january 2002 to 1st January 2008. Download available in German only.
The newly published "migration statistics 2008" contain an analytic overview and detailed tables for international and interregional migration during the reporting year. In addition the publication also includes all results of the revision of migration statistics for 2002-2007, which arises from matching with the results of the register based test census in 2006.
